Rock of the Ukrainian spirit

Audio Version Entry: 60-80th. Rock in Ukraine

ENEY

In Soviet times, Ukraine is considered a classic "Brezhnevism reserve". When Shcherbitsky Soviet Ukraine beat records against dissent dissent and different, so even the slightest manifestation of opposition sentiment punished harsher than in Moscow. Rock and Roll in the Cold War views the organization as an ideological diversion. Short period of Khrushchev's thaw the second half of 60th marked the rapid growth of the youth pro-Western movement, with tens of big formations bit rattled in dormitories, carefully copying THE BEATLES, THE ROLLING STONES, Elvis Presley. Rapidly gained popularity a SECOND BREATH, UANS, BEREZEN, ENEY and others. Self-made recordings of rock 'n' roll idols lightning replicated and went from hand to hand along with records of the western groups. News about concerts instantly draws huge crowds of young people, so get to the concert stars was considered a great success. Rock'n'roll wave overflowed the country, and has slowly made its way in a thin stream on state TV and radio.

KOBZA

Such rapid onset rock epic ended abruptly. "Prague Spring" of 1968, or "spring of freedom" in the Czech Republic was crushed by Soviet tanks. These tragic events have had quite a sad echo in the USSR. KGB department, which grow like mushrooms after the rain started undeclared war against dissent. The _focus of the all-seeing eye was the KGB and rock music. Whole system of restrictions and prohibitions should negate free creativity anyone uncontrolled groups. In fact, rock music was banned. But cultured Soviet pop song and adapted folklore.

However, this does not mean that the "rock'n'roll is dead". The atmosphere of underground concerts further fuels the interest in this music, and total stagnation 70 breathed life into the highly original underground - literary, poetic, artistic. Speaking of the 70's - these were the years of developed socialism and vocal and instrumental ensembles. Each band was assigned to a regional philharmonic society, had his own artistic and administrative leaders and performed songs approved by the higher authorities. Most of the repertoire consists of works by members of the Union of Composers. Their works to allow musicians to perform only after their alleged artistic tips that were party officials and members of the most creative unions. Fierce opposition and partisans of rock 'n' roll moved into genres that were out of reach of Soviet censorship - that is played then popular jazz-rock, art rock, or music that is not included verbal series. Bright trace left behind KROK, REPORTAJ, OREOL, CREDO, CROSSWORD and more.

KOLEZKIY ASESOR

1980 brought the first stirrings of hope. Fatally grown old Politburo, corrupt to the core economic system and a large number of political jokes heralded proximity of fresh air of freedom. The Petersburg-Moscow "red tide" as expressive rock and opposition to the regime, has spread widely in the USSR. It was the explosion of tape culture. Plates by "Melody" had enough pathetic compared to reels and cassettes, replicable artisanal containing songs ZOOPARK, KINO, AQUARIUM, ALISA and other significant groups of perestroika. The heyday of rock music in the mid 80's was inspired by the beginning of Gorbachev's perestroika, with its doctrine of "glasnost" and "acceleration". Forbidden fruit is slowly becoming available - legalization rock movement avalanche occurred in all cities appeared rock clubs, and all the philharmonic VIA hastily perelitsovyvali their sound "on a rock." Kiev rock club "The Forge", "threw" the surface of the whole clip command, which quickly gained popularity not only in Ukraine. The train "hard rock" led EDEM, PERRON, FLAT 50, KOMU VNIZ, TITANIC, leaders' alternative wing "were KOLEZKIY ASESOR, VOPLI VIDOPYASOVA, RABBOTA XO. They are all actively toured and clubs in different cities have worked closely with each other and constantly staged various promotions and festivals. The then rock clubs, created by enthusiasts and musicians is a symbiosis of rehearsal, concert halls, and replicated data center company.

KOMU VNIZ

In the late 80's there is a new formation of musicians, clearly focused on the idea of ??national revival of Ukraine. Their appearance stimulated festival "Chervona Ruta" - a powerful movement, which gathered under the banners of national consciousness creative intelligentsia. The highlight was the "Chervona Ruta" in Chernivtsi in 1989 It was there for the first time in a loud voice sounded GADYKINY BROTHERS, Vika Vradiy (sister Vika), ZIMOVIY SAD, KOMU VNIZ, VV. On the wave of revival - in Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv and other cities appeared quite distinctive groups that differed sharply from many others, and carefully copied the western standards. In general, the beginning of the 90's - it's years of differentiation by styles. Years of intensive search of themselves in the ocean of music. And most importantly - the mystery of identity took a rock musician in the plane of the native traditions, within the - Ukrainian land.

GADYKINY BROTHERS

But the lack of music industry and at least a minimal show-Corporate Business infrastructure continuously inhibit impulses pure musicians deal exclusively with the music, make them "run" in parallel activities. They "bit by bit" collect studio equipment rivet themselves to organize concerts and are engaged in the publication of their own albums. Unlike pop music, commercialization, as such, hardly touched the rock music - no one here has earned a lot of money, no one has made a career ... Quite the contrary. Therefore it is no arrogance on our part to consider the rock as pure art talent, with warm hearts, people.

Many interesting and bright rooms, of which we will discuss below, derived from the capital. But Kyiv - not the whole Ukraine. West, East and South also created stars and stars that left its mark on the history of the genre. I hope the journey sometimes rock and roll fame will really groovy. Our first stop - the city of Kharkiv.
